Dr. Challoner asked if there could be a vote on the current draft of the Governance Document.  Dr. Gene Albrecht called for a motion to table the vote.  He pointed out that there were to be further changes made to this draft as promised by Drs. Levine and Bernstein at the previous open meeting. This motion was seconded by Dr. Anderson.  The vote to table was: Yes - 12, No - 8, Abstain - 1
The motion to table passed.

Dr. Challoner then asked if the assembled representatives could give an opinion poll of how the majority of their Faculty had reacted to the current draft of the Governance Document.

Many representatives described concerns and unresolved issues that had been discussed in their departments.

Dr. Kaslow distributed a proposed recommendation entitled "A Joint Task Force Regarding Governance" to the represntatives.

After some discussion, it was agreed that this recommendation could be voted on at the next MFA meeting on May 5th.

Dr. Challoner reminded the 11 departments whose representatives' term would expire in June that nominations had to be placed and elections held prior to the June 2nd meeting of the MFA. She also stated that nominations were being accepted for officers of the MFA 97/98 by Dr. Harvey Kaslow, President Elect.

The meeting was adjorned at 5:30 pm.

The next meeting of the MFA will be on May 5th in the basement conference room of the Norris Medical Library.
