Robert H. Stellwagen, Ph.D.
MFA President
Professor, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Hoffman Research Center (HMR) 600
HSC
Dear Dr. Stellwagen,
Your letter of August 7, 1996, transmitting a request from the Medical Faculty Assembly, has been received.
In response to your first request that a copy of the text of the County Professional Services Agreement (CPSA) and its amendments be shared with you, a copy of the CPSA and its amendments are available in my office (KAM 500) for your review.
As to your request for an accounting on a departmental and yearly basis of all expenditures by the university of funds received from the county under the CPSA, it must be refused. This involves an extensive amount of information, most of which is private and confidential, particularly as it pertains to individual physicians.
As to identification of faculty sent letters dated June 28, 1996, by Dr. Van Der Meulen, such information is private between the recipient of the letter and the School of Medicine and cannot be disclosed.
I trust you will understand the privacy and confidentiality issues involved in your request as well as the burden which the compilation of such information would require. Please let me know when you would desire to review the CPSA and its amendments.
You have also requested a special meeting of the Faculty Executive Council (FEC). As I indicated in our conversation last week, Mr. William Strippoli will assist you in sending notification to FEC members if he has ample notice prior to the meeting and if you indicate which FEC members you want to attend (administrators, department chairs, faculty or students). Further, please indicate to Mr. Strippoli the purpose of the meeting. As you and I discussed, we would want the MFA recommendation distributed with the notification of the FEC meeting.
Sincerely,
Leslie Bernstein, Ph.D.
Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs
